If you’ve ever experienced a move, then you will understand that it can be very stressful, especially if you haven’t had time to plan it all in advance.
It’s a project many people often underestimate, simply because there are so many things to arrange. Furthermore, at the time when the move is actually happening, things can get hectic and emotions can run high if things don’t go according to plan.
Luckily, there are some things you can do to make sure the transfer of your belongings runs smoothly.
Ever wonder what you can do to help things go the way you want them to? Here is our top ten tips list for an organised move.
Get started early. Nothing beats preparation, so make it a point to start quite some time ahead of the moving schedule. It’s probably going to take longer than you think.
De-clutter. It’s the perfect chance to go through all the stuff you have and throw out what you no longer need.
Preparing the boxes. Buy quality boxes – you won’t regret it. You need your belongings to be safe and delivered in proper condition.
Get plenty of wrapping. You’ll need more than you think. You can also use pillows, clothing, blankets, and other soft items in the house to protect delicates.
Go from room to room. Be organised. Go from top to bottom and from room to room.
Use physics to your advantage. Pack the heaviest items at the bottom – it will ensure a safer travel.
Get a quality moving service. Think about your personals and what they’re worth; they’re not worth a cheap service. You want quality.
Take inventory. As you pack, list the items.
Use labels to your advantage. Label the boxes – what room do they go into? Breakables?
Draw up a plan. Your moving service will appreciate the colour coding and a drawn-up map of the route to take.
One other thing: a very helpful note. Make sure you have an essentials kit ready for the first night.
A kit containing the essentials you may need for the first two days – tissue paper, separate utensils, pillows and sleeping bags or blankets.
It’s unlikely that you will be able to unpack everything on the first day, so there will be some items that you need to put aside to make everyone more comfortable for the first couple of days.
It all starts with preparation. Happy moving!
